Run the River

Run the River is an annual road race organized by HomeStretch that supports the organization’s work with families experiencing homelessness. The event features a USATF-certified, Peachtree Road Race qualifying course that runs along the Chattahoochee River and is described as a flat, runner-friendly route suitable for fast times and first-time racers.

The race began in 2001 and grew to more than 1,200 registrants by 2017. HomeStretch pauses the event in 2026 because of construction and road closures in the traditional course area, and the race is scheduled to return on March 27, 2027. Planning for 2027 emphasizes preserving the fast, flat qualifying character of the course and improving race-day amenities, hospitality, and the post-race experience.

The event typically includes options for different ages and abilities and offers a Youth Fun Run for children 12 and under. HomeStretch provides sponsorship tiers with specified benefits and lists volunteer opportunities as part of event operations. Proceeds support HomeStretch programs such as safe housing, workforce development, financial coaching, and life-skills training for families working toward stability and permanent housing.
