Run the Rails - Elburn, IL - August 22, 2026
Run the Rails is a community road race presented by the Elburn Parks Commission on August 22, 2026. All races start and finish at Prairie Park (3rd and North Street, near the library) in Elburn, Illinois. The event benefits the Elburn Parks Commission.
The event includes multiple distances:
- 1 mile fun run/walk
- 4 mile run
- 7 mile run
Courses cross the Union Pacific West rail line via the Anderson Road bridge, providing views of Elburn and the surrounding countryside. Course maps are available for the 4-mile and 7-mile routes; the 1-mile map is listed as TBD.
Timing for the 1-mile, 4-mile and 7-mile events uses a disposable chip attached to the back of the race bib. Bibs must be worn on the front of clothing so the chip can be read. Smart watches and smart phones can interfere with timing chip signals and timing disputes based on those devices will not be considered.
Packet pickup is offered before race day at two local locations and on race day; walk-in registration is available at packet pickup. Participants who register by August 11 are guaranteed a racerback or tank top at packet pickup; limited extras may be available after that date.
Awards: all 1-mile participants age 1-12 receive a medal. For the 4-mile and 7-mile races, awards go to the top three male and female overall and top three male and female in the listed age groups from 9 & under through 70 & older. Plenty of parking is available around the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
