Run The Hook 5K/10K
The 11th Annual Run The Hook 5K/10K takes place at Sandy Hook National Park in Highlands, New Jersey. The event supports the local non-profit Clean Ocean Action, which works to protect local waterways from pollution and industrialization. The course is situated on a peninsula less than one mile wide, offering participants scenery of the Atlantic Ocean and Sandy Hook Bay.
The event offers three distinct distances:
- 10K
- 5K
- Kids Run (open to ages 5-12)
The race is held on a closed course within the National Park and features chip-timed results for all participants. To align with the mission of protecting the environment, the event is organized as a single-use plastic-free race. Attendance is limited by the National Parks Service, with registration capped at 600 participants.
All runners receive a t-shirt and a commemorative pint glass upon reaching the finish line. Advanced bib and shirt pick-up is held at a local running store in Shrewsbury the day before the race, with same-day pick-up also available at the start area. Registration follows a tiered schedule, beginning with a priority period for previous participants before opening to the general public.
