About the race
Run the Fort is the 5th annual race held at Fort Macon State Park in Atlantic Beach, North Carolina, on November 28, 2026. The event offers a single distance of 5K and allows participants to run or walk. Timing support is available from Run the East for those who choose a timed competition.
The event benefits the Boys and Girls Club of the Coastal Plain. Funds support a capital campaign for a new club building in Beaufort. The Boys and Girls Club provides after-school and summer programs, including tutoring, hot meals, and community activities for young people.
Registration opens June 20, 2026. Fee levels published by the organizer are: $30 until September 30, 2026; $40 from October 1 to October 31, 2026; $45 from November 1 through race day. A reduced fee of $25 applies to participants 18 years old and under on all dates. All registered participants receive a Run the Fort T-shirt; sizes are guaranteed until November 1, 2026.
The course follows the Fort Macon trail along the Crystal Coast and overlooks the ocean. Terrain includes sand, boardwalk, and dirt, with dunes, hills, and maritime forest sections.
