Event Overview
Run Sunset Beach is an annual running event held in Sunset Beach, North Carolina. Now in its 13th year, the event is part of the BAM! Race Series, which is characterized by its oversized finisher medals. The race takes place in a coastal island setting, featuring a route that passes through a waterfront park, shaded golf course communities, and over a bridge spanning the intracoastal waterway.
Participants can choose from several distance options held on the same day:
- Half Marathon (13.1 Miles)
- 10K (6.2 Miles)
- 5K Run/Walk (3.1 Miles)
- 1 Mile
The event also includes virtual options for the Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K distances for those unable to attend in person.
Course and Atmosphere
Running through Sunset Beach offers oceanfront views and a variety of coastal scenery. National Geographic has recognized the location as one of the top beaches in the world. The event is scheduled for April, a time of year when the area typically sees average high temperatures of 67 degrees and lows of 59 degrees Fahrenheit.
Participants receive a race bib and a finisher medal upon completion of their distance. While the 1 Mile entry includes a medal and bib, a race shirt for that specific distance is an optional purchase. For all other distances, medals and t-shirts are provided exclusively to those who finish the course.
