Run Rock Creek 5K/10K

The Run Rock Creek 5K/10K is an inaugural event organized by the Rock Creek Conservancy in partnership with the National Park Service. Held in Rock Creek Park, Washington D.C., the race provides an opportunity for participants to run through forest landscapes and along the water within an urban national park setting. The event serves as a fundraiser to support park restoration, maintenance, and trail safety.

Participants can choose between two distances:

  • 5 km run or walk starting near Picnic Grove 24.
  • 10 km run starting near the west side of the Rock Creek Tennis Center.

The course features water stations at the one and two-mile markers for the 5 km route, while 10 km participants have access to stations at the one, two, three, and four-mile markers. Facilities include restrooms located at the starting area at Picnic Grove 24. The event is scheduled to take place rain or shine.

The race program includes pre-race activities such as instructor-led yoga and stretching warmups. Park rangers also lead guided walking tours on the trails. Following the race, an awards ceremony recognizes the top three male and female finishers overall, as well as the top three finishers in various age categories ranging from 19 and under to 70 and over. A community forum is also held after the race to discuss the future of the running experience in the park.

Parking and race grounds access are located at 4850 Colorado Ave NW, near the Rock Creek Tennis Center and Carter Barron Amphitheater. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
