About the race
Run Oak Island is a two day road race weekend held on Presidents Day weekend, with events staged across Oak Island, North Carolina. The program includes multiple distances and both in-person and virtual options. Finishers of most distances receive three dimensional medals and a soft tri-blend shirt; the 1 Mile shirt is optional for an added fee.
Distances offered:
- 26.25 miles Ultra Marathon
- 26.2 miles Full Marathon
- 13.1 miles East Half Marathon (competitive)
- 13.1 miles West Half Marathon (walker friendly)
- 10K
- 5K
- 1 Mile fun run
Several courses are USATF certified including the Full Marathon, both half marathon courses, the 10K and the 5K. Course characteristics include long flat sections, oceanfront running on parts of the routes, and a 65 foot intracoastal bridge climbed twice on the West Half. Course support includes multiple water stops (13 on the full, 7 on the half, 2 on the 10K and 1 on the 5K), mile markers and volunteer assistance. Time limits vary by distance and are enforced for road and town restrictions.
The event is part of a three race series that awards an additional series medal for completing qualifying events in the same calendar year. Packet pickup is planned at St. James Community Center.
