Polar Plunge & Run
Polar Plunge & Run takes place on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Kure Beach Pavilion, 105 Atlantic Avenue, Kure Beach, NC 28449. The event combines running and a cold-water plunge and includes two running distances plus plunge-only and combined options.

- 5K, timed event
- 1 Mile, untimed event
- Plunge, plunge into the Atlantic Ocean
- 5K Run and Plunge, combined event
- 1 Mile Run and Plunge, combined event
The course runs from the boardwalk through neighborhoods and parks. The course is described as flat and is stroller, wheelchair and dog friendly. All 5K and 1 Mile finishers receive a finisher medal. Shirts are guaranteed for registrants by January 15, 2026; later registrants may be limited to remaining sizes.
Parking is available at legal street parking spots in surrounding blocks; parking fees may apply. The event program includes live music, vendors, food trucks and games. The 5K awards recognize the top three overall male and female finishers and top three male and female finishers in age groups that range from 10 and under through 60 and over.
The event supports Special Olympics New Hanover County. That program provides year-round sports training, competition, social events and Summer Camp for individuals with intellectual disabilities, serves more than 1000 athletes locally, and relies on private and corporate support and volunteer efforts.
