Run for the Trees Jeannette Genius McKean Memorial 5K
The Run for the Trees 5K is a point-to-point running and walking event held in Winter Park, Florida. The course features a section through the tree-canopied, wilderness dirt road of Genius Drive. This privately owned area is typically closed to the public and is opened specifically for this annual event.
The event is designated as a cupless race to support sustainability. Participants have the option to receive a reusable folding cup at registration, and touchless refill stations are located at the pre-race area, the post-race area, and along the course. Historically, the City of Winter Park provides over 1,500 young trees to encourage reforestation, and all in-person finishers receive a tree sapling.
Available distances include:
- 5 km (timed)
- Free Kids' Run (100 to 400 yards)
The 5 km race is B-Tag timed, and awards are issued to the top overall male, female, and nonbinary finishers, as well as the top finishers in various age categories. A virtual participation option is also available for those unable to attend in person.
Because the race is a point-to-point event, participants must walk back approximately 1.3 miles from the finish line to the post-race area using a designated walking path. Parking is available at Ward Park, local schools, and nearby medical facility lots. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
