Run for the Trees 5K
Run for the Trees is a point-to-point 5K run/walk in Winter Park, Florida, produced by the City of Winter Park and Track Shack. The event takes place at Ward Park, 250 Perth Lane, and includes an in-person finish on the tree-canopied, wilderness dirt road of Genius Drive, a privately owned section opened to the public for this event only.
The event offers in-person and virtual options and provides participant swag including a t-shirt and a young tree sapling for in-person finishers. The race is cupless: at registration and bib pick-up participants may accept a complimentary reusable cup, and touchless refill stations are available in the pre- and post-event areas and on course. Hand-held or belt hydration systems are encouraged.
Distances
- 5K
- Free Kids' Run, 100 to 400 yards, age-appropriate groups and ribbons for finishers
Additional practical details include a 1.3 mile walk back to the post-race area from the finish line, timing with B-Tag chips, and a pace requirement to maintain approximately a 15 minute per mile pace for course access. The event supports The Winter Park Tree Replacement Fund and distributes a large number of trees to encourage replanting and reforestation. The race emphasizes sustainability measures such as composting, recycling, and reduced single-use plastics. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
