RUN/WALK FOR THE RARE : Salem, OR
Haley's Heroes Foundation presents the 8th Annual RUN/WALK FOR THE RARE on June 6, 2027, at Riverfront City Park, 200 Water St NE, Salem, OR. The course starts and finishes outside the pavilion in the North Meadow. The event supports International Batten Disease Awareness Day and broader rare disease awareness.

Registration fees are listed as $45 for adults and $35 for children. The registration package includes a food coupon, an ice-cream coupon, access to a photo booth, and an event t-shirt. Early packet pick-up is available on June 5 at Gallagher's Fitness, 135 Commercial St NE, Salem. Packet pick-up is also available on the day of the run at the event site. A virtual participation option is available; the virtual $45 donation includes an official event t-shirt shipped to the participant.
The event materials include several rare disease statistics: an estimated 1 in 10 people have a rare disease, about 50 percent of those affected are children, there are more than 7,000 known rare diseases, and an estimated 350 million people globally live with a rare disease. The organizer also notes that around 95 percent of rare diseases do not have an FDA approved treatment or cure. The event uses the hashtag #RUNFORTHERARE for participant photos.
