Run for Nicaragua 5K
The event takes place on May 15, 2027, at 1420 Lakeside Drive, Yorktown, VA. It includes in-person and virtual options and is organized as a community and charity running event. Timing and results are provided by Flat-Out Events Race Management.
Distances and event formats:
- 5K - competitively timed; top three overall male and female awards; participant medal.
- One Mile Fun Run - not a timed event; participation medal.
- Virtual 5K - results posted after the event; virtual participants do not compete for awards.
Registration opens December 30, 2026. Event registration details in the event listings include a standard 5K fee of $30, a One Mile Fun Run fee of $10, and a Virtual 5K fee of $35 (listed as $27 race fee plus $8 shipping for swag). Pre-registration by April 11, 2027 guarantees an event shirt; shirts are distributed first-come, first-serve after April 12, 2027. Late registration and race packet pick-up are available on race day.
This is the eighth annual Run for Nicaragua. Since 2019 the event has raised over $50,000 to build homes in Nicaragua. The 2027 fundraising goal is $20,000 to build homes in the Carlos Fonseca Barrio; each home is listed at a cost of $2,700. Event funds also support school supplies, furniture, and related aid.
A local food drive will collect non-perishable items at packet pick-up and on race day; donated items receive raffle tickets and a food drive prize is drawn after the awards ceremony.
