Run for Nicaragua 5K
The Run for Nicaragua 5K takes place in Yorktown, Virginia, at 1420 Lakeside Drive. This annual event, established in 2019, aims to raise funds to build homes and provide school supplies for families in Nicaragua. The competition is managed by Flat-Out Events Race Management and offers multiple ways to participate:
- 5K: A competitively timed road race.
- One Mile Fun Run: An untimed event for participants.
- Virtual 5K: A remote option that allows participants to complete the distance from any location.
All individuals who complete the 5K or the One Mile Fun Run receive a participant medal. Those who finish the 5K competitively timed race receive their results through the official race management timing system.
The event includes several community activities, such as refreshments, games, and raffle prize drawings. A food drive is also held on-site to support the Thrive Peninsula food bank. Participants can donate non-perishable food items, like cereal and canned vegetables, during packet pick-up or on the morning of the event in exchange for raffle tickets.
