Run for Nicaragua 5K : Yorktown, VA
The Run for Nicaragua 5K is a community fundraising event held on May 16, 2026, at 1420 Lakeside Drive, Yorktown, VA 23692. The event program includes the following distances and formats:
- 5K : competitively timed; all 5K finishers receive a participant medal.
- One Mile Fun Run : not a timed event.
- Virtual 5K : remote participation option; no awards for virtual entries.
The event is the seventh annual Run for Nicaragua. Since 2019 the race has raised more than $50,000 to build homes in several barrios in Nicaragua. The 2026 fundraising goal is $20,000 to support home construction in the Carlos Fonseca Barrio; each home is stated to cost $2,000. Event proceeds also support Nicaraguan families with school supplies, furniture and other needs.
Registration information includes a t-shirt deadline of April 12, 2026; registrations received after that date are not guaranteed an event shirt or requested size and shirts are distributed on a first come first serve basis after April 12. Published entry fees include a 5K early price of $30, higher fees later, a One Mile Fun Run fee of $10, and a Virtual 5K fee that includes shipping for race items.
The event features raffles, refreshments, games and a local food drive for Thrive Peninsula. It is planned as a rain or shine event and participants take part at their own risk. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
