The event supports home-building and other aid for families in Nicaragua; past efforts since 2019 have raised over $50,000 and a stated goal for a prior year was $20,000 to build homes in the Carlos Fonseca Barrio. Event funds also support school supplies and furniture for families. The race collects non-perishable food items for Thrive Peninsula; donated items earn raffle tickets for a prize drawn after the awards ceremony.
