Event Details

The Run for Malawi is a 5K charity run and walk taking place on Saturday, April 11, 2026, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The event is held at Southern Village Green on Market Street. Participants can choose between an in-person 5K Race or a Virtual 5K Run.

Charity Cause

This is the ninth year of the event, which supports the Malawi Children's Initiative (MCI). MCI is an all-volunteer non-profit organization focused on improving the lives of children in Malawi. Its work includes investments in healthcare, education, and nutrition. The charity has provided over $1 million in funding, training, staffing, and equipment since its founding.

Key projects include funding an elementary school, providing healthcare scholarships, and supporting a pediatric clinical lab and residency program at Kamuzu Central Hospital. MCI also runs a Nutritional Rehab Unit at the hospital. The goal for this year's event is to raise $50,000 to train pediatricians and provide healthcare resources for Malawian children.
