Run for Dad
Run for Dad is an American Cancer Society community event to raise funds and build awareness about prostate cancer. The event takes place on September 26, 2026, at Mercer County Park Festival Grounds - West Picnic Area in West Windsor Township, New Jersey. The date was moved from Father’s Day to September to align with Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
The event typically draws over 1,000 participants and includes in-person and virtual options. Race and activity formats include:
- 5K (3.1 miles)
- 2 mile walk
- Virtual 5K
- Kids fun run (100 m)
There is a designated registration category for prostate cancer survivors. Small children take part in the Kids Run for Dad in a series of short races where all participants are treated as winners.
The event materials include several public health statistics about prostate cancer. In 2023, about 228,800 men in the United States were diagnosed with prostate cancer and over 27,500 died from the disease. About one man in seven will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. New Jersey is noted to have the third highest incidence per capita in the United States. Incidence in African American men is reported to be roughly 60 percent higher than in white or Asian men. Early detection is associated with a nearly 100 percent five-year survival rate, and 93 percent of diagnosed men are expected to live ten years or more.
