Run for ALD, Cure the Boys : event overview
Knockout ALD is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit that raises awareness of adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) and funds for ALD research at the University of Minnesota Leukodystrophy Center. The organization reports that lifetime funds raised for University of Minnesota ALD research now exceed $360,000.
ALD is a rare genetic disease that progressively affects the adrenal glands, spinal cord, and myelin of the nervous system. It most severely affects boys, and early diagnosis and treatment are important, especially for cerebral ALD.
The main annual event is Run for ALD, Cure the Boys. For its 10th anniversary the event is scheduled for Nov. 21st near St. Louis in Creve Coeur, MO and is offered both as an in-person event and as a virtual option. The event includes an organized run and a shorter walk:
- 5K run
- 1 mile walk
Organizers provide individual registration, team registration, and sponsorship opportunities. The event supports ongoing research projects at the University of Minnesota Leukodystrophy Center and aims to bring ALD families and supporters together through the annual run.
