Run for a Pawpose 5K

This event includes several running options on a Saturday evening in April. It supports the Pups With Purpose program run by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office. This program provides shelter dogs with a second chance and teaches skills to inmates.

The event is open to walkers, runners, and dogs of all ages. All participating dogs must be registered in advance, and proof of rabies vaccination must be submitted online.

The events are:

  • Kids Fun Run: For children aged 10 and under. Dogs are not permitted.
  • 5K (Humans): A standard 5K distance.
  • Doggie 5K: A separate 5K registration category for dogs.
  • Virtual 5K (Humans): A remote participation option.

Registered dogs receive a custom bandana. Human participants in the in-person 5K and Kids Fun Run receive a race t-shirt and a finisher medal. T-shirt size is guaranteed for registrations completed by April 10, 2026. Awards are given for overall male/female, overall masters male/female, and top three in 5-year age groups for the 5K.

The event takes place at the New Forsyth County Administration Building on Freedom Parkway in Cumming, Georgia. Packet pickup is available the day before the race at Big Peach Running Co. in Cumming and on race day starting at 5:30 PM. The event is held regardless of weather, though officials may alter it for safety reasons. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
