Run for a New Day
Run for a New Day is a 5K event in Galveston, Texas on September 12, 2026, with both in-person and virtual participation options. The in-person activities are based at Galveston Island Brewing, 8423 Stewart Rd, Galveston, TX 77554.
The event raises awareness and funds for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and supports mental health initiatives.
The event includes these distances:
- 5K in-person race, chip timed, $40 registration fee.
- Virtual 5K open to participants anywhere, $25 registration fee.
The in-person route starts and finishes at Galveston Island Brewing, proceeds west on Stewart Road, south on 85th, then west on the Seawall, and has a water stop at the turnaround. Awards are given to overall male and female finishers and to age group places 1st through 3rd in the following categories: 19 & Under; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60 and up.
Event features include chip timing, a custom event pint glass for all entrants, a commemorative event t-shirt, two Galveston Island Brewing beers for runners aged 21 and over, a post-race after party at Galveston Island Brewery, free race photos online, and welcome access for strollers and dogs. The Swell Galveston Recovery Zone will offer post-run cold plunges; a towel and change of clothes are suggested.
Registration opens March 20, 2026 at 10:00 for both options. In-person registration closes April 1, 2026 at 00:59; virtual registration closes September 12, 2026 at 08:35. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
