Trail Running at Caney Lake
Run Caney takes place in the Kisatchie National Forest near Minden, Louisiana. The event features a loop course around Upper Caney Lake, utilizing the natural terrain of the local area. Participants navigate a landscape characterized by oak flats and slight hills. The course conditions are described as having moderate levels of rocks and roots.
The event offers three distinct distance options to accommodate different preferences:
- 3 Miles (5K Walk or Run)
- 6 Miles (trail race)
- 12 Miles (trail race)
The race is organized in an "Old School Style," emphasizing a traditional trail running experience. Because the course lacks extreme elevation changes or technical obstacles, it is intended to be accessible for those participating in their first trail race. The start and finish area is located at the Day Use Area of the park, and the standard park usage fee is covered by the event organization for participants.
Awards are presented to the overall male and female winners in each of the three race categories. Additionally, age group winners receive a handmade ornament.
