Run Because You Can - Runnin' for Rhett
Run Because You Can is organized by Runnin' for Rhett, a nonprofit that runs an after-school Youth Fitness Program. The event in Land Park marks a community 5K that celebrates the completion of six weeks of training by about 3,000 youth athletes from the Sacramento area. The event also includes an untimed quarter mile dash for young children.
Event distances
- 5K community race.
- 1/4 mile untimed dash for children 8 and under.
The course is centered at William Land Park near the intersection of Freeport and Sutterville. The route starts near that corner, features tree-lined streets for the middle miles, and returns toward the finish near Sutterville and Freeport. There is one fluid aid station with restrooms at the midpoint, and restrooms are also available at the start and finish areas. Each 5K participant receives a bib with a disposable timing chip.
Packet pickup is on-site race morning near the start area. Youth Fitness students who selected a school affiliation receive their packet through their coach; others pick up on race morning. Entry fees listed are $35 for the 5K and $15 for the untimed 1/4 mile dash. Organizers recommend parking at Sacramento City College for a small fee and advise against crossing the golf course to reach the park.
Event policies note that pets are not allowed except service dogs, baby joggers are permitted when started near the back of the field, and refunds are not offered though virtual transfers are possible if arranged with the organizer before the race.
