Mountain Rescue Pendle Dark Dash

The Mountain Rescue Pendle Dark Dash is an evening running event that takes place on Pendle Hill. Starting from the village of Barley, the route follows the tourist path to the base of the steps. Participants face a steep ascent to the Beacon and trig point before running across the flags to the top of Ogden Clough. The course then descends through the Clough, featuring two stream crossings and passing the Ogden Reservoirs, before returning to the finish in Barley.

The event covers a total distance of 9.2 km. Although the route is marshalled by volunteers and receives partial marking, participants are required to carry a map and compass and possess the skills to use them for navigation in the dark.

Safety requirements for all participants include:

  • A head torch
  • Full kit as specified by the Fell Runners Association (FRA)

This event serves as a fundraiser for the Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team, a registered charity. All proceeds from the entry fees support the local mountain rescue services.

Registration is open to individuals aged 18 and older. Please note that dogs are not permitted on the course. The event is held during the evening, requiring runners to navigate the terrain in dark conditions. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
