Event overview
Round the Rock is a set of road and trail races on Jersey offering three distances:
- Ultra
- Marathon
- Half Marathon
The Ultra route runs anti-clockwise around the island and is described in five segments: Steam Clock, St Helier to CP1 St Catherine’s (10.5 miles); CP1 to CP2 Les Fontaines (10.5 miles); CP2 to CP3 Grosnez (8 miles); CP3 to CP4 Beauport (9 miles); CP4 to the finish in St Helier (9 miles). The Marathon joins the route at Les Fontaines (CP2) and uses CP3 and CP4. The Half Marathon starts at Watersplash, St Ouen’s, and uses CP4 (Beauport).
Logistics and rules
The course is waymarked at junctions and decision points only; long straight sections may have no markers. Runners are expected to carry the GPX route on a device. Aid stations are placed roughly every 8-10 miles and provide water at all checkpoints; selected stations offer squash, coke and basic food. The event is cupless, so participants must bring a cup or bottle.
Mandatory kit applies to all distances and may be checked. Required items include a rucksack, warm layer, hat or buff and gloves, whistle, compass, trail shoes with adequate grip, foil survival blanket, small first-aid kit, charged phone with what3words, at least 1000 ml drinking capacity, and a GPS device or phone with the route loaded. Solo competitors may not be paced or crewed. Cut-offs and rule enforcement can lead to withdrawal, disqualification or bans. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
