The Intertidal

The Intertidal is a tide-dependent, point-to-point running challenge across Jersey’s south coast, running from Gorey to St Aubin’s. The route covers approximately 24.7 km with about 20 m of elevation gain and includes intertidal sections that are exposed only during a low-tide window.

The course starts beneath Gorey Castle and follows the foreshore between coastal landmarks. Competitors must visit six required waypoints in order : Seymour Tower, Icho Tower, Green Island, Havre des Pas, Elizabeth Castle, and St Aubin’s Fort : and collect a token at each for result validation. The final validation takes place up the slope at St Aubin’s Yacht Club.

Terrain is mixed, combining open sand, rock, runnels and channels, promenade transitions, and a causeway crossing. Typical hazards noted for the route include slippery rock, soft sand, wave splash, changing causeway surfaces, pedestrians in urban sections, and sections that may become unsafe as the tide turns. Navigation is part of the challenge: GPS/GPX guidance is provided for reference, but participants are expected to follow race-day instructions and make conservative decisions if conditions change. The sea sets natural limits on progress and can act as the effective cut-off if the tide closes in. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
