Event Overview
The Rosehill Cemetery 'Crypt' 5K Run/Walk is a 13th annual event held on the grounds of Rosehill Cemetery, a historic Victorian-era site that opened in 1864. The cemetery spans 350 acres and is the largest in Chicago.
Course and Setting
The course takes place entirely within the sprawling cemetery grounds. The route is a 5K distance and is described as a candlelit course at night. Participants run or walk past monuments, mausoleums, and scenic paths. The cemetery is the final resting place for notable figures, including more than ten Chicago mayors, Oscar Mayer, John G. Shedd, Cubs announcer Jack Brickhouse, adman Leo Burnett, Sears founder Julius Rosenwald, and many Civil War veterans.
Available Events
Participants can choose between two events:
- 5K Chip-Timed Run
- 5K Fun Run/Walk
The starts for these two events are separated to avoid crowding at the beginning.
Participant Inclusions
All participants receive a long sleeve T-shirt, a finisher medal, glow necklaces, and bracelets. Entrance to a post-race party at the nearby Fireside Restaurant & Tavern is included, which offers a complimentary sponsored beverage.
