Roly's Run : Meon Valley and South Downs Way
Roly's Run is a multi-distance trail event held in the Meon Valley, Hampshire, organised by CHALK & MUD TRAIL RUNNING LTD. The event is held in memory of a friend and ultra-runner and is now in its eighth year. Race headquarters are at Swanmore Village Hall.
Distances offered
- 15.5 mile (463 m ascent)
- 21.5 mile (712 m ascent)
- 40 mile (1266 m ascent, 10 hour cut off)
All courses form a clockwise loop starting at Swanmore and include Beacon Hill, Exton and Meonstoke. The 20 and 40 mile routes follow part of the South Downs Way to Winchester Hill; the 40 mile route continues on the South Downs Way to cover East Meon, Ramsdean and Butser Hill before returning toward Winchester Hill. From Meonstoke all routes use the old railway line back to Swanmore via Droxford. The finish is at the village hall where a hot drink and food will be available.
The course is approximately 80% trail, includes notable climbing, and can be tricky underfoot in wet conditions (loose stones, tree roots, slippery chalk descents). Courses will be marked and an up-to-date GPX file will be available prior to the event. There will be fully stocked checkpoints. Walkers are permitted on the 15 and 20 mile options and on-the-day swapping between those two distances is allowed.
The event is run under UKA rules. No dogs are permitted on the route. Minimum ages apply for each distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
