Running through the Decades - 1980s Edition
The Running through the Decades Half Marathon in Fort Worth is a themed athletic event hosted by Bigfoot Running Company. Located at Marine Creek Lake, the event features a 1980s retro theme throughout the venue. Participants are encouraged to wear decade-appropriate attire, such as neon colors, leg warmers, and headbands.
The event offers several race distances to accommodate different interest levels:
- Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
- Quarter Marathon (6.55 miles)
- 5K Run (3.11 miles)
- 1 Mile Fun Run
- Kids Dash (approximately 50 meters)
- Virtual Run
The half marathon, quarter marathon, and 5K are chip-timed competitions. The courses primarily utilize paved trails and park paths, though participants may encounter mixed surfaces such as crushed granite or dirt. Aid stations provide water and support along the route. As the event takes place in a public park, the trails remain open to other recreational users.
All participants receive a finisher medal and a soft-style t-shirt. The event includes a live DJ playing period-specific music and a pre-race costume contest with awards for individual and group categories. Top finishers in the timed events are eligible for overall trophies, Masters pins for those aged 40 and over, and standard age group recognition. Snacks and refreshments are available for participants following their races. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
