Format, course features, and awards
Runners start a new 4.167-mile loop each hour. To remain in the event, a runner must finish the loop within that hour; any remaining time between loop finish and the next start is available as rest. Missing the hourly cutoff eliminates the runner. The event continues in this way until only one competitor remains, who receives the Winner's Buckle labeled "Last One Standing."
Course features use rodeo-themed names and rituals. Each hour begins in the "Chute." At the halfway point, runners perform "The Catch" by lassoing a post at the Roper's Turnaround and then move a token on a pegboard for verification. An aid station called the Chuckwagon provides hydration and fuel. Runners ring a cowbell when they finish a loop. Additional recognition includes finisher tokens labeled "Thrown from the Bull" or "Bucked at Loop #__" and participant shirts. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
