Rocky Raccoon 100
Rocky Raccoon 100 is a trail running event held at Huntsville State Park in early February. Distances offered include a 100 mile race, a 100K, and a Youth 1 mile run. The event takes place around Raven Lodge beside the lake within the park.
The 100 mile course is five 20 mile full laps. The 100K uses a short 2 mile lap followed by three 20 mile full laps. Each full lap has roughly 1,250 feet of elevation gain and equal loss. The route runs through East Texas pine forest, along the lake, over wooden bridges, and on trails covered with pine needles. Runners should watch for exposed tree roots; rocks are not a prominent feature.
Course marking is extensive with caution tape, yellow arrows, and reflective markers for night navigation. Aid stations provide full support day and night and accept drop bags at specified locations. The event is cupless so runners need a personal cup or bottle; collapsible cups are available at packet pickup. Timing uses ankle chips and results show both gun time and chip time. Pacers are allowed after a runner completes 49 miles; additional pacer rules apply. The 100 mile finish within 30 hours qualifies a runner to enter the Western States 100 lottery.
