About the race
Rocky 50 is a trail race held on February 13, 2027 at Huntsville State Park (565 Park Road 40 West, Huntsville, TX 77340). The event takes place rain or shine and typically sells out. Course access, parking, camping, and packet pickup occur at Raven Lodge by Lake Raven.
The event offers these distances:
- 50 mile: 3 x 16.7 mile loops
- 50K: 14.6 mile short lap then one full 16.7 mile lap
- 13.1 mile: 1x modified 13.1 mile lap with bridges
- Youth 1 mile: untimed youth run with finisher medal
The route begins at the edge of Lake Raven and uses much of Huntsville State Park trail system. Trails are rolling with many exposed tree roots, pine-needle covered surfaces, scenic bridges, and lake views. Expect roughly 1,250 feet of elevation gain and loss per full lap. The organizers provide extensive course markings including caution tape, yellow arrows, confidence markers, and reflectors for dark sections.
Aid station support is provided with hot and cold options; runners are encouraged to use drop bags. The Bridge Aid Station serves primarily half marathon runners as a water refill point. The event is cupless: participants must bring a cup or bottle; collapsible cups are available at packet pickup. Chip timing is used with ankle-mounted chips; chips must be returned if a runner leaves the course. Littering can lead to disqualification under the event's Leave No Trace policy.
