Event Overview
The Rocky 50, presented by USWE, is a trail race held annually in early February at Huntsville State Park. The event features three main race distances: 50 miles, 50K, and 13.1 miles (half marathon). There is also an untimed Youth 1 mile race.
Course Details
The route winds through Huntsville State Park, starting near Lake Raven. The terrain is described as gently rolling with no steep climbs and features many exposed tree roots. Runners will encounter pine trees, bridges, and views of the lake. Distances are run on loops:
- 50 Mile: 3 laps of a 16.7-mile loop.
- 50K: 1 lap of a 14.6-mile loop, followed by 1 full 16.7-mile loop.
- 13.1 Mile: 1 modified lap of 13.1 miles.
The course is known for its extensive marking system with caution tape, arrows, and confidence markers, many of which have reflectors for night running.
Event Information
The race operates under a Leave No Trace policy and is a cupless event; runners must bring their own cup or bottle for aid station drinks. Full aid station support is provided with hot and cold options. Pacers are allowed after 4:40 PM, or for the entire race for runners aged 60 and older. Drop bags can be placed by runners, with a delivery service available for the Dam Nation aid station for 50-mile and 50K participants.
A family-friendly area with backyard games is provided, and a food truck with various menu options is typically at the finish line. Runners receive a shirt (if registered before the cutoff) and a finisher's medal. Overall awards are given to the top 3 male and female finishers and top masters (50 and older).
