Catch the Pineapple Wave 5K

Catch the Pineapple Wave is an annual event organized by the Peyton Irwin Foundation to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving. The run is named in memory of Peyton Irwin, who had a personal affinity for pineapples. This fifth edition of the event takes place in Huntsville, Texas, and serves as a fundraiser to support educational programs regarding road safety and to provide scholarships for students.

Participants can choose from the following distances:

  • 5K run or walk
  • 1 mile run or walk
  • 5K virtual run

Registered participants receive a T-shirt, a swag bag, and a finisher medal. Individual times are tracked for those completing the course. The event utilizes the grounds at 486 TX-75 N and includes an opening program followed by an after-race event. For those not located in the local area, the virtual 5K option includes the shipping of race materials after the event concludes. The proceeds are directed toward the foundation's mission of educating the public on the risks associated with texting and social media use while operating a vehicle.
