Event Overview
The Rock the Light Pirate Dash and Captain Woolsey race takes place at the northern tip of the Leelanau Peninsula. Both the start and finish lines are located at the Grand Traverse Lighthouse Gift Shop, situated within Leelanau State Park in Northport, Michigan. The event includes in-person races and virtual options that can be completed between June and December.
Distances and Course
Participants can choose from the following distances:
- 5K Run/Walk
- 10 Miles
- Virtual 5K Run/Walk
- Virtual 10-Miler
The 5K course is a flat out-and-back route moving toward N. Purkiss Road. The 10-Miler course follows an out-and-back path toward Woolsey Airport. The 5K distance includes one aid station at the turnaround point, while the 10-Miler features three aid stations spaced approximately every 2.5 miles. Both routes provide additional support at the finish line.
Participation Details
The in-person races are chip-timed. All participants receive a finisher medal, a giveaway item, admission to the lighthouse, and a pancake breakfast. Awards are presented to the top three finishers in each five-year age group. On-site registration is available on the morning of the event for both distances. The 5K walk is open to strollers and dogs. Vehicle entry to Leelanau State Park does not require a recreation passport during this specific weekend.
