About the race
The River & Bay 5K takes place on October 31, 2026 on the Virginia Institute of Marine Science and Batten School campus at Gloucester Point, on the York River. The event is open to the public and includes a timed 5K, a 1 mile fun run, and a separate 5K race walk.
The 5K course passes through Gloucester County Point Park, goes under the Coleman Bridge, moves along the boat basin, and through the neighborhood that surrounds the coastal and marine sciences center. Awards are given to top finishers and a Halloween costume competition is part of the day.
After the races, Davis Lawn features hands-on educational exhibits, oyster tastings, and additional seasonal treats and activities aimed at families and visitors. Registration for the running events opens August 10, 2026 and closes October 21, 2026; the listed registration fee for the timed 5K is $35 and for the 1 mile fun run is $20.
