Roche Abbey Ramble

The Roche Abbey Ramble is a multi-distance trail event held in South Yorkshire. While named after the local 12th-century Gothic church ruins, the race starts and finishes at the Travellers Rest in Brookhouse, Sheffield. The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and supports the preservation of historic sites by donating a portion of each entry fee to English Heritage.

The course consists of a 6.7-mile loop that participants complete multiple times depending on their chosen distance. The terrain features a variety of surfaces, including trails, roads, grass, and woodland sections. Part of the route involves crossing stepping stones where a marshal is stationed for assistance. The course is described as undulating with some unmarshalled road crossings.

Participants can choose from four available distances:

  • 6.7 miles (one loop)
  • Half Marathon (two loops)
  • 20 miles (three loops)
  • Marathon (four loops)

Feed stations are located approximately every three miles along the route, providing water and a variety of food items. This is a cup-less event, so runners must carry their own reusable bottles or cups. For safety, large over-ear headphones are prohibited, though bone-conducting or "one in one out" earphones are permitted.

Finshers receive a bespoke medal and post-race refreshments at the pub, including cake and a chip butty. Parking is available in a field at the venue for a fee. Number collection takes place on the day of the event during the registration period. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
