Roche Abbey Ramble
Roche Abbey Ramble is organised by Its Grim Up North Running and is based at the Travellers Rest, Main Street, Sheffield, S25 1YA. The event does not start or finish at Roche Abbey. Roche Abbey is noted as a site founded in 1147 with well preserved early Gothic church ruins. The organiser donates 50p per runner to English Heritage.
The route begins on the main road in front of the Travellers Rest and combines trail, road, grass and woodland underfoot. The course includes stepping stones with a marshal to assist, follows an undulating lapped layout and uses a lap length of 6.7 miles. Races are licensed by the Trail Running Association.
Available distances:
- 6.7 Miler: one lap (6.7 miles)
- Half Marathon: two laps
- 20 Miles: three laps
- Marathon: four laps
Feed stations are located on the course, usually about every three miles, and offer drinks and food; the event operates a cup less approach so runners are asked to bring a reusable cup or bottle. Large over ear headphones are banned; bone conducting earphones or one in one out in ear pieces are permitted. There may be unmarshalled road crossings. Bibs are issued at registration on the day. Parking is available in the pub field for a £5 charge to the pub. All finishers receive a bespoke medal, cake, a chip butty served in the pub, and a pint or soft drink.
