Roche Abbey Ramble
Its Grim Up North Running stages the Roche Abbey Ramble at the Travellers Rest, Main Street, Sheffield, S25 1YA. The event does not start or finish at Roche Abbey; the organiser donates 50p per runner to English Heritage, which cares for Roche Abbey and similar sites. Roche Abbey was founded in 1147 and is known for well preserved early Gothic church ruins.
The route begins on the main road in front of the Travellers Rest and is a lapped course with one lap equal to 6.7 miles. The surface is mixed, including trail, road, grass and woodland. The course includes stepping stones with a marshal in place to assist. The route is undulating.

- 6.7 Miler - 1 lap (6.7 miles)
- Half Marathon - 2 laps
- 20 Miles - 3 laps
- Marathon - 4 laps
There are water and feed stations on course, typically around every three miles, and the event aims to be cup-less so runners are encouraged to use a reusable cup or bottle. Large over ear headphones are banned; bone conducting or one in one out in ear pieces are acceptable if needed. Bibs are issued at on the day registration. Parking is in the pub field and is charged at £5 payable to the pub. The races are licensed by the Trail Running Association. All finishers receive a bespoke medal, cake and a chip butty served in the pub, with drinks available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
