Reentry Resource Center’s Rise Up and Run 5K
The County of Santa Clara Reentry Resource Center and partner organizations are organizing a 5K event to raise funds for the immediate needs of justice-involved people, including clothing, food, hygiene items, and transportation. The event aims to support individuals reentering the community from jail or prison who often lack clean clothes and other essentials as they begin work, education, or mentoring roles.
Event options:
- 5K (3.1 miles) in-person run/walk
- 5K (3.1 miles) virtual option available Oct 17 through Oct 31, 2026
The in-person event takes place at Hellyer County Park - Cottonwood in San Jose, California. Participants receive a Rise Up and Run race shirt and a medal. Packet pickup information will be announced later. The registration fee listed for both event options is $41.00.
Support for the event is described in several forms: sponsoring race registrations for individuals or families, monetary donations to buy new clothes for people released from custody, and donating new clothing items. The description of reentry work notes common barriers faced by clients with felony records, such as restricted access to employment and housing, and mentions clients pursuing education, job advancement, and peer mentoring.
