Red Sneakers Peoria 5K & Teal Pumpkin Festival
Red Sneakers Peoria 5K & Teal Pumpkin Festival is an event for food allergy awareness organized by the Peoria chapter. It takes place at Tower Park in Peoria Heights, Illinois on October 17, 2026. The program combines a timed 5K and an untimed 1-mile walk/run with a separate Teal Pumpkin Fall Festival focused on allergy education and family activities.
The event supports fundraising with a stated goal of $75,000. Timing and scoring are provided by ShaZam Racing. Packet pickup is available before the event at a local running store and on-site at Tower Park on the weekend of the event. Shirts are included with registration when available, and a youth discount reduces the fee for children 12 and under.
Recent local impact highlighted by the organizers includes equipping Peoria police officers with epinephrine auto-injectors, partnering with restaurants to offer allergy-safe options, training early learning educators and donating epinephrine, expanding allergy-safe zones at community venues, installing an allergy-friendly playground sign, and securing local media coverage.
The Teal Pumpkin Fall Festival is free to attend and supported by a FARE Community Outreach Award Grant. Festival features listed in prior years include practice epinephrine training on a model, live music, face painting, inflatables, non-food treats, teal pumpkin painting, a children’s booth, raffles, and allergy-friendly samples.
