Red Dirt Ultra
The Red Dirt Ultra takes place in the Kisatchie National Forest in Louisiana, running on the Sandstone and Caroline Dormon trail system. The 2027 edition is the 11th running of the event. The course consists of rolling pine hills, sandy ridgelines, creek crossings, and remote forest. The terrain includes loose and hard-packed sand, rocks, mud, and water crossings. The trails are multi-use routes shared with ATV riders and equestrians.
The event offers three distances: 35K (~22 miles), 50K (~33 miles), and 100K (~66 miles). The 35K is a new distance for 2027 and runs as an out-and-back course. The 50K and 100K races are run on a clockwise loop course, with the 100K consisting of two loops. All races share a finish cutoff at midnight. The 100K has an 18-hour time limit.
Aid stations are available and are described as well-stocked and staffed by experienced ultrarunners. Vegan food options are provided at the finish line and a mid-loop aid station. The event is organized by ultrarunners.
The nearby historic town of Natchitoches, located about 25 minutes from the start, is suggested for post-race meals and lodging. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
