About the race
The Green Park Reading Half Marathon is a long-established road race held in Reading. The event on 21 March 2027 follows a single-lap, traffic-free course of 13.1 miles (21.1 km). The route starts in the Green Park business park area, passes through the grounds of the University of Reading and central Reading streets, and finishes inside the Reading Football Club stadium with a stadium finish. The course is described as undulating rather than completely flat.
Route highlights include a run under The Oracle, passage through the historic Abbey Arch, and running past the Maiwand Lion. The route also features an organised entertainment area at mile eight with bands, DJs, stilt walkers, samba performers and other entertainers. Event organisers report more than 15,000 spectators lining parts of the course.
The race is one of the longest running and most popular road races in the UK, operating since 1983. It is a significant charity fundraiser; over half a million pounds was raised in 2025. A VIP package is offered as an optional paid upgrade (early bird price listed at £100). The VIP package includes race entry, free car parking, a VIP technical T-shirt, a finisher T-shirt, access to a hospitality box with a finish-line view, private bag drop, post-race hot meal and refreshments, post-race massage, a free race photograph and free entry for one child under six.
