Rat Race 100 Ultramarathon

The Rat Race 100 is a fully supported 100‑mile ultramarathon presented as a three-part trilogy where each edition starts where the previous one finished. The first route runs from Bamburgh toward Edinburgh and follows large sections of coastal and mixed terrain.

The event is designed to be accessible: there are no qualifying times, a walker-friendly planning pace of 2.5 mph, and fully waymarked signage across the whole route. Participants have a generous 48 hour completion window and access to staffed Pit Stops that provide water, hot and cold food options at enhanced stops, basic medical cover, toilets and snacks. Medical provision is delivered by a professional event medic service with paramedics and doctors operating in vehicles and a private ambulance.

Logistics include transport of up to five participant drop bags from the start to designated Pit Stops and onward to the finish. Standard drop bags are limited to about 5 kg and 15 L, while the main finish bag allowance is larger. Sleep station options are available at later Pit Stops with an increased allowance (up to 25 L and 10 kg) for short rest breaks. The route is subject to change for safety or operational reasons and participants must follow the event waymarking on the day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
