Rat Race 100 Ultramarathon

The Rat Race 100 is a fully supported 100 mile (161 km) ultramarathon held in the UK with two route options in 2026: Bamburgh to Edinburgh and Edinburgh to Glamis. The event is designed for both walkers and runners, with a 48 hour limit and guide cut offs based on a 2.5 mph moving pace from specific pit stops.

The route is fully waymarked and served by regular Pit Stops. Pit Stops are classified as SIMPLE or ENHANCED. SIMPLE stops offer water, juice, hot drinks, sweet and salty grab and go snacks, fruit and toilets. ENHANCED stops add hot food options such as porridge, noodles, soup and sandwiches. Pit Stop locations are published for each route and are approximate and subject to change.

Drop bag and sleep station services are provided. For the Bamburgh to Edinburgh leg five bags are moved including one sleep station bag (choice of three designated sleep locations) and several small drop bags limited to 5 kg and 15 L. For the Edinburgh to Glamis leg four bags are moved, including a sleep station bag and an 81 mile drop bag. A larger finish bag may be transported to the finish.

Mandatory safety and kit requirements are applied and spot checks are carried out. The inaugural 2025 event recorded a 65% completion rate. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
