Rasselbock Backyard Ultra - Hardwick Hall 2026
Rasselbock Backyard Ultra returns to Hardwick Hall Estate on Saturday 5 September 2026. The event is a last person standing format held on estate land near Chesterfield and Sutton in Ashfield, approximately five minutes from J29 on the M1.
Competitors run the same loop each hour until only one runner remains. The course is a minimum of 4.16 miles (6.71 km) per lap and each lap must be started on the hour and completed within that hour. Runners must be inside the starting corral when the bell rings or they will be recorded as a DNF. Late starts are not permitted and the standard backyard rules apply: no personal aid while on a lap, no non competitors on the course, no artificial aids, and slower runners must allow faster runners to pass.
The route runs through a mix of estate trails and farmland with natural woodland, farm tracks and a small amount of tarmac; the organiser recommends trail shoes. The course may be adjusted for estate or operational needs but will retain the same length and general character.
Event support includes a small aid station with hot and cold drinks plus snacks and cake, dedicated first aid cover, an area for support crews and tents, a bespoke memento for entrants and trophies for winners and furthest male and female. Camping the evening before is permitted. If the National Trust closes the venue for safety reasons the organiser will reschedule and offer deferrals.
