Event
The Pen-Y-Ghent Ultra (Ranger Ultras Yorkshire Pen-Y-Ghent 50k) is a 50 km trail ultra based in Hawes, Yorkshire Dales. The route goes out and back via the Cam Road to Horton-In-Ribblesdale, summits Pen-y-Ghent, and returns along the Cam Road. Total ascent is 1280 m. The course is on established trails and is not waymarked beyond fixed finger posts. A GPX file and navigation notes are provided to entered participants.
Race details
Entries are limited and the event is held under a Trail Running Association permit and England Athletics competition rules. Participants must be 20 years or older on race day. On-course support includes staffed checkpoints, water, snacks and hot soup at locations such as Kidhow Gate and Horton-In-Ribblesdale. Race HQ at Hawes Market House offers indoor resting space and hot food and drinks for finishers. Finishers receive eco medals and separate winners’ trophies for fastest male and female.
A compulsory minimum kit list is enforced. Required items include a backpack, waterproof jacket, warm layers, appropriate mountain trail footwear, hard copy map(s), navigation compass, head torch with backup, whistle, emergency bivvy, sufficient food and fluids, first aid kit and a fully charged mobile phone (UK network SIM).
