Ranger Ultras Yorkshire Pen-Y-Ghent 50k
The Ranger Ultras Yorkshire Pen-Y-Ghent 50k is a 50 km mountain trail race that starts and finishes at Hawes Market House and runs over established limestone trails in North Yorkshire. The route follows the Cam Road to Horton-In-Ribblesdale, includes the summit of Pen-y-Ghent, and returns along the Cam Road. Total ascent is 1280 metres. Entries are limited to 50 and the minimum age is 20 years.
The event provides on-course support from the Ranger Ultras Team with water, snacks, and hot soup available at Kidhow Gate and Horton-In-Ribblesdale. Navigation course notes and a GPX file are emailed to entrants before the race. Participants receive tea, coffee and a pasta or pizza style meal after the race and finishers receive an eco coaster medal. Prizes are awarded to the fastest male and female.
Race registration is available on the evening before the race and on race morning. The organisers set generous cut off times and require a compulsory minimum kit list. Required equipment includes a backpack, waterproof jacket with hood or head covering, warm layers, appropriate mountain footwear, a hard copy 1 25 000 scale map, a baseplate compass, a head torch with a viable backup option, an emergency bivvy bag, sufficient food and fluid, a first aid kit, a fully charged mobile phone on a standard UK network SIM, and a litter bag.
