Ranger Ultras Yorkshire Pen-Y-Ghent 50k
The event is a 50 km trail ultra around Pen-y-Ghent with total ascent of 1280 metres. The route starts and finishes at Hawes Market House, follows the Cam Road to Horton-In-Ribblesdale, includes a summit of Pen-y-Ghent, and returns along the Cam Road. The course is on established limestone trails through North Yorkshire scenery and uses established road head and hill top checkpoints.
On-course support is provided by the Ranger Ultras team with water, snacks and hot soup at Kidhow Gate and Horton-In-Ribblesdale. Navigation course notes and a GPX file are emailed to entered participants prior to the race. A pasta dinner and hot drinks are available for racers at the finish and finishers receive an event medal. Prizes are awarded to the fastest male and female finishers. Entries are limited to 50 and there are separate affiliated and unaffiliated entry fees.
Race registration is available on the Friday evening before the race and on the morning of the event. Generous cut off times apply.
Competitors must carry minimum compulsory kit. This includes a backpack, waterproof jacket with hood or additional head covering, insulating hat and gloves, warm layers, appropriate mountain or fell running footwear, a hard copy Ordnance Survey type map covering the route, a baseplate navigation compass, a head torch with an approved backup option, a whistle, an emergency bivvy bag in polythene or survival material, sufficient fluids and hill food, a first aid and blister kit with personal medication, a fully charged mobile phone with a standard UK SIM, and a litter bag. Optional items include GPS, walking poles, waterproof over trousers, an unbreakable mug for hot drinks on course, and a bag with sleeping kit if staying at the hall.
