Ranger Ultras Yorkshire Pen-Y-Ghent 50k
The event is a 50 km trail ultramarathon in North Yorkshire with a total ascent of 1280 metres. The course follows established limestone trails and passes through countryside typical of the area.
The race starts and finishes at Hawes Market House. The route follows the Cam Road to Horton‑in‑Ribblesdale, includes a summit of Pen‑y‑Ghent, then returns along the Cam Road. Cut off times on the course are described as generous.
On course support is provided by the Ranger Ultras team. Water, snacks and hot soup are available at Kidhow Gate and Horton‑in‑Ribblesdale. Navigation course notes and a GPX file are distributed to entrants in the lead up to the race. A hot dinner and drinks are provided for participants on return to the race headquarters. Finishers receive an eco coaster style medal and there are prizes for the fastest male and fastest female.
Entries are limited to 50 and the minimum age is 20 on the event date. Entry fees are listed as £53 for affiliated runners and £55 for unaffiliated runners.
A minimum compulsory kit list applies. Required items include a backpack; waterproof jacket with hood; insulating hat and gloves; warm layers; appropriate mountain or fell running footwear; hard copy Ordnance Survey type maps and a base plate navigation compass; a head torch with a specified backup option; whistle; emergency bivvy bag; sufficient fluids and hill food; a first aid and blister kit plus personal medication; a fully charged mobile phone with a standard UK SIM; and a litter bag.
