Event overview

The Ranger Ultras Yorkshire Pen-Y-Ghent 50k is scheduled for 19 September 2026 and is based at Hawes Market House. The route is approximately 50 km with about 1,280 metres of total ascent. The course follows established trails and the Cam Road to Horton-In-Ribblesdale, includes a summit of Pen-y-Ghent, then returns along the Cam Road. The event is organised by Rangers Expeditions & Ultras. Entries are limited to 50 participants. Minimum age is 20 on the event date. Entry fees are listed as £53 (affiliated) and £55 (unaffiliated). Entries open 15 September 2025 and close 11 September 2026.

Logistics and required kit

The event offers Ranger Ultras team support at the race headquarters, road head and hill top locations, and on-course water stops with snacks. Hot soup will be provided at Kidhow Gate and Horton-In-Ribblesdale. Navigation course notes and a GPX file are sent to entered participants before the race. All finishers receive an eco-coaster medal and there are awards for fastest male and female.

A minimum compulsory kit list is enforced. Items include a backpack, waterproof jacket with hood, warm layers, suitable mountain running footwear, an OS-type map and navigation compass, a head torch with backup power, whistle, emergency bivvy bag, sufficient food and fluids, a first aid kit and a fully charged mobile phone with a standard UK SIM. Optional items and facility notes include walking poles, an unbreakable mug for hot drinks, and the option to rest overnight at the hall without shower facilities.
