Pen-Y-Ghent 50 km Ultra
The Pen-Y-Ghent Ultra is a trail running event based at Hawes Market House in the Yorkshire Dales. The route follows the Cam Road to Horton in Ribblesdale, includes a summit of Pen-y-Ghent, and returns along the Cam Road. Total distance is 50 km with total ascent of 1280 metres. The course runs on established trails and is not waymarked beyond fixed finger posts. A GPX file and navigation course notes are provided to entrants in advance.
On-course support includes staffed checkpoints, water, snacks and hot soup at Kidhow Gate and Horton in Ribblesdale. Race HQ offers indoor resting space and hot food and drinks at the finish. Finishers receive eco medals and there are bespoke eco trophies for the fastest male and female. The event is held with a Trail Running Association permit under England Athletics competition rules. Participants must be 20 years or older on race day.
Entries are limited and a fee structure is listed for affiliated and unaffiliated participants. The organiser publishes a compulsory minimum kit list for all competitors. Required items include a backpack, waterproof jacket with hood, warm layers, appropriate footwear, OS map and base plate compass, head torch with reliable backup, whistle, emergency bivvy bag, sufficient food and fluids, first aid kit and a fully charged mobile phone.
