#Race4Wanza
The #Race4Wanza is an annual community event held in Charleston, South Carolina, to honor the legacy of TyWanza Sanders. Organized by Race 4 Achievement Inc., this event serves as a primary fundraiser for the TyWanza Sanders Scholarship Fund and other philanthropic outreach programs supporting minority high school graduates in the local area. The 11th edition features a course approximately 3.5 miles in length.
Participants can choose between standard running categories and specific competition challenges involving doughnuts. The event layout includes a starting location at Kids Garden and a midway point at Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, with restroom facilities available at both sites.
Available event categories include:
- 3.5 Miles Individual
- 3.5 Miles Kid (ages 5-15)
- 3.5 Miles Donut Challenge Individual
- 3.5 Miles Donut Challenge Kid (ages 5-15)
- 3.5 Miles Donut Challenge Team
- 3.5 Miles Race From Home (virtual)
The Donut Challenge categories require participants to consume a specific number of doughnuts to qualify for 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place rankings. Individual competitors must eat 12 doughnuts, while participants in the kid category are required to eat four. Teams, consisting of two to three members, are tasked with eating 12 doughnuts collectively. Team members must stay together at the midway point until all doughnuts are consumed, and their official time is recorded when the final team member crosses the finish line.
Participants in the virtual option receive their race materials via mail. For on-site participants in the team challenge, color-coordinated clothing or themed outfits are encouraged for identification purposes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
