Race to the Stones
Race to the Stones is a trail event held on the Ridgeway, Britain’s oldest footpath, scheduled for 10–11 July 2027. The route crosses chalk downs, ancient forests, and riverside paths, finishing at the Avebury Standing Stones, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The event offers multiple distance formats:
- 50 km
- 100 km non stop
- 100 km over two days
The 100 km course gains about 1350 m of elevation. Organisers provide fully signposted trails, individual chip timing, seven main pitstops with a range of food and drink, and a halfway basecamp with hot food and showers. Support services include rapid response paramedics, qualified medical staff at pitstops, bag transfer to the finish, and bookable shuttles and parking at additional cost.
Additional features listed include training plans and webinars in the build up, event photographers, live finish line MC and photographer, finisher medals, and optional extras such as merchandise, individual trackers, and event photos. Prize funds for course records were stated as Men’s £1000 and Women’s £2000. Entry prices and payment plans vary by package; a general entry price from £45 per person and specific tiered fees were listed for each distance format.
Historic sites on the route include Grim’s Ditch, Goring on the Thames, Uffington White Horse, Barbury Castle, Hackpen White Horse, and Avebury Standing Stones. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
