Event overview
The MTC Windsor Ultra is a point-to-point ultramarathon of 47 miles along the River Thames. The listed start location is outside The Catherine Wheel, Henley-on-Thames (RG9 2AR) and the finish is outside Travelodge Kingston Central (KT1 2PD). The course shows a total ascent of 155 metres and total descent of 182 metres. Entry is priced at £90.00 per person and entry fees are non refundable; there is an option to run free by raising an agreed amount for the organiser's preferred charity. All finishers receive a bespoke Windsor Ultra medal and a choice of a technical t-shirt, mug, or hat. The first male and female finisher receive a bespoke Champions Trophy for the event.
Route, checkpoints and requirements
The route follows the Thames from Henley through locations such as Marlow Lock, Cookham Moor, Maidenhead Bridge, Windsor Racecourse, Brocas Meadow with views of Windsor Castle, Runnymede and past Queen Mary Reservoir, finishing in Kingston. The event uses three checkpoints that provide water and basic nutrition. Checkpoint segment distances are: start to CP1 - 9.5 miles; CP1 to CP2 - 12 miles; CP2 to CP3 - 13.9 miles; CP3 to finish - 12.9 miles. Example checkpoint food items include malt loaf, sandwiches, dried fruit, squash, cola and water; organisers aim to cater for gluten free, vegan and vegetarian needs if advised at entry. Competitors must be self-sufficient for travel to and from the event, carry mandatory kit including a GPX device or downloaded route and a mobile phone, and maintain at least a 4.0 miles per hour average or risk being withdrawn.
