About the race
The Race to the River 5K & Fun Run takes place in Spencer, North Carolina, at Spencer Town Hall and Spencer Town Park on 10/17/2026. All proceeds benefit the Spencer Parks & Recreation Activities Initiative.
The event includes two distances:
- 5K: point-to-point course from near Spencer Town Park following US-29 North to the Yadkin River Park Trailhead and the Wil-Cox Bridge.
- 0.5 miles: youth fun run held at Spencer Town Park, with runners 12 and under completing four laps.
Trolley shuttles sponsored by Novant Health will provide transportation back to Spencer Town Park during the event. Each participant receives a race t-shirt and a sponsor bag with assorted items. Timing and scoring for the 5K will be provided by Salisbury Rowan Runners.
Awards take place after the races at Spencer Town Park. 5K awards include Top 3 Overall Male and Female, Top 3 Masters Male and Female, and Top 3 Male and Female in each age group: 10 & Under, 11-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 & Over. The Fun Run awards recognize the Top 3 overall in ages 12 and under.
The event notes an opportunity for runners to compete in two 5K races the same day; special recognition and awards are planned for the top 5 male and top 5 female runners with the fastest combined times across both races. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
