Purpose and organization
The race is a fundraiser organized by the Davie Community Foundation SURF Board (Students Understanding Real Futures). Proceeds support youth-led grants and projects for children and young people in Davie County. This is the 13th annual Popsicle 5K.
Event features, fees and awards
The event includes packet pick up and on-site registration on race day. Features listed by the organizer include a raffle ticket at packet pick up, a wintry costume contest, and a "Brain Freeze Challenge" that involves eating a popsicle at three points of the event. Children aged 8 and under who do not run will be supervised by SURF students. All participants must sign a waiver and no pets are allowed on the course. Fee structure for the 5K and walking entries uses tiered pricing ($15 early bird through 10/31; then $20, $25, $30, and a higher race-day fee). Team and Davie County student/staff discounts are offered; the Zero K fee is listed as $20. Awards will be given to top overall male and female finishers and to the top three in multiple age categories from 9 and under through 70+.
