Trail Running at Salisbury Racecourse
Race on the Chase takes place at Salisbury Racecourse, located approximately 3 miles from Salisbury city centre. The event base provides participants with access to indoor space, permanent toilets, hot showers, and a large hard-standing parking area. This trail event features three distinct distances that traverse the undulating downland of the surrounding countryside.
The available distances include:
- Marathon: A 42.2 km course with 625 m of vertical climb.
- Half Marathon: A 21.1 km course with 329 m of vertical climb.
- 10k: A 10 km course with 133 m of vertical climb.
The routes follow a variety of terrains, including ancient tracks known as droves, which were historically used as cattle and sheep routes to market. Runners also pass through grassy field margins, woodland paths, and the natural turf of the Martin Down Nature Reserve.
The landscape is rich in historical features. Participants in the marathon and half marathon pass by Bockerley Dike, an Iron Age boundary earthwork. The area also contains Bronze Age burial mounds and Neolithic archaeological sites. Part of the route at Martin Down includes remains from a Second World War rifle range.
Every finisher receives a medal. Trophies are awarded to the top three male and female finishers in each event distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
