14th Annual RACE for the Orphans 5K
The RACE for the Orphans 5K is an annual community event held in downtown Newnan, Georgia. The event supports RACE for the Orphans, Inc., whose stated mission is Raising Awareness, Compassion and Education about the needs of orphans around the world. Funds raised support area adopting families and a grant program that names annual grant recipients.
The 5K course is USATF certified (GA19094WC) and serves as a qualifier for the Peachtree Road Race. Professional race management provides RFID chip timing for official finish results. Awards include medals and cash prizes for top overall finishers and age group awards, plus recognition and prizes for schools with the most participants. A race shirt is guaranteed to registrants who meet the published registration deadline, and a phantom runner option is available with purchase of a $20 shirt.
The event has grown since its founding in 2013 and has exceeded 1,000 participants and volunteers in recent years. Alongside the main 5K, the program includes shorter community events for younger participants and a mile fun run or walk.
