Race for Space 5k & 10k
The Race for Space is an athletic event held at the Warrenton Aquatic & Recreation Facility (WARF) in Virginia. This event serves as a benefit for the Northern Piedmont Sports Center, an organization dedicated to providing recreational and competitive sports opportunities for children and the community. The races are chip timed, and participants can choose from three different distances:
- 10 km
- 5 km
- 2.5 km
The 10 km course features seven water stations located at approximately mile markers 1, 1.55, 2.55, 3.1, 4.1, 4.65, and 5.65. The 5 km route includes three water stations. Gatorade is provided at select stations. Results are published live on Athlinks, and participants can also scan a QR code on-site for immediate timing data.
Registered participants for the 10 km and 5 km distances receive a technical drifit event shirt and a finisher's medal, provided they register before March 10th. Those participating in the 2.5 km receive a medal but no shirt. The event organizers also offer a virtual race option for those unable to attend in person. Awards are presented to the top three overall male and female finishers, as well as the top two in various age categories ranging from 19 and under to 70 and over.
