Race for Open Space 5K & 1 Mile Walk - Fourth Street Preserve, Lewes, DE
The event takes place on April 25, 2026 at George H.P. Smith Park in Lewes, DE. George H.P. Smith Park is located at the end of Dupont Avenue and has a paved parking lot next to the children's playground and the Historic Lewes Farmers Market. The Seashore Striders and The Open Space Alliance Campaign are co-hosting the event to raise funds for the Fourth Street Preserve, which the campaign seeks to maintain in its natural state with public access and walking trails.
Event options include:
- 5k Run or Walk
- 1 mile Walk
- 5k Run or Walk virtual option
- 1 mile Fun Walk virtual option
The 5k follows a 3.11 mile course from the park to 4th Street, into the Pilottown Development to a turnaround point, and back. The 1 mile walk turns around near the open space and returns to the park. Chip timing will be used with the Chronotrack system. Refreshments are listed from Giant and Surf Bagel when available. Short sleeve technical race shirts are guaranteed to runners who pre-register by the Monday of race week; remaining shirts are first come.
Awards are provided for the 5k: overall male and female, master male and female, and top three finishers in 10-year age groups from 9 and under to 70 and over. There are no awards for the 1 mile fun walk. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
