Event overview
Race for Hope DSM is an annual running event held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, in Des Moines, Iowa. The event takes place at 2201 George Flagg Parkway, Des Moines, IA 50321. It was launched in May 2013 with 600 participants and raised more than $25,000 in its first year. Over the past 13 years the event has raised more than $700,000 for brain tumor research. The event is organized by an all-volunteer staff that keeps costs low to increase funds sent to brain tumor organizations.

Prices listed on the event page are $25 for the Kid's Fun Run, $30 for the 2K, and $35 for the 5K, 10.1K, and virtual entries. Prices for the 2K, 5K, and 10.1K increase after January 31, 2026. Registration for the Kid's Fun Run and the virtual entry closes on May 9, 2026. The race was inspired by a local teen diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2012 and was modeled after the Washington, D.C. Race for Hope to raise awareness and funds during Brain Tumor Awareness month. A course map and additional information are available from the race organizers.
