Event details
The Race for Education offers both an in-person and virtual option over race weekend on September 12-13, 2026. The event program includes a 5K and a 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk. The in-person 1 Mile is open to children ages 2-12. Registration opens January 1, 2026. Entry fees listed in the source are $25 for the 5K, $15 for the Kids 1 Mile, $25 for the Virtual 5K, and $20 for the Virtual 1 Mile. Registrations received by September 1, 2026 are guaranteed a race t-shirt; availability after that date is limited. If the in-person portion is cancelled, registrations will be moved to the virtual option.
Location, logistics and awards
The in-person events are scheduled at Massaponax High School (8201 Patriot Highway, Fredericksburg, VA) and will begin and end on the track behind the school. The course includes Guinea Station Road, which will be closed on race day. Race bibs and shirts can be picked up at pre-race sessions held at the SCPS Administrative Services Office (8020 River Stone Drive, Fredericksburg, VA 22407) on designated pickup dates, and on race morning; in-person registrants may pick up packets between 7:15 a.m. and 8:00 a.m.
Awards for the in-person 5K include overall top three men and women, plus top three boys and girls in the 14 & Under and 15-19 age groups. All youth ages 12 and under in the 1 Mile Fun Run receive a participation medal. A School Challenge awards $300 and a trophy to the elementary, middle and high school with the largest number of paying participants. The Spotsylvania Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3), is the host organization. Sponsors listed include Spotsylvania County Public Schools and several local businesses.
