Event Overview
The Race for a Place to Call Home is an annual athletics event held in Riverside Park, Janesville, Wisconsin. Now in its sixth year, this event utilizes the park's North Pavilion as the central location for the start and finish lines. The courses are designed to accommodate both runners and walkers, with the event proceeding regardless of rain or sun.
Participants can choose from the following distances and formats:
- 5K Run: A timed event on a flat, fast course.
- 10K Run: A timed distance for long-distance runners.
- 5K Walk: An untimed version of the 5K course.
- 1 Mile Run/Walk: A shorter distance option for participants.
- The 16:49 Challenge: A competitive 5K with specific performance-based rewards and unique starting logistics.
Competition Details and Amenities
Professional chip timing is provided for all timed distances. In the 5K and 10K timed races, trophies are awarded to the top three male and female finishers. Additional prizes are distributed to winners within specific age categories. For the 16:49 Challenge, participants who finish the 5K in 16 minutes and 49 seconds or less receive a cash prize, while those finishing under 18 minutes receive a registration refund.
All registered participants receive a running bib, a t-shirt, a finisher medallion with a lanyard, and a swag bag. Walkers start their respective courses after the runners have departed. The event serves as a benefit for Project 16:49, a local non-profit organization that provides housing and support services for unaccompanied homeless youth in Rock County.
